At 2:47 a.m., the subway had stopped running long ago.
But after Meng Jibai followed an inspection train into the tunnel, he saw a station that had been demolished eight years earlier.
The platform lights were on.
A woman's voice repeated over the speakers:
"Passengers who are still alive, please do not get off the train."
Only then did Meng Jibai realize that the city he'd lived in for twenty-four years had another side.
A convenience store where the cash register could never be closed at three in the morning, floors that didn't exist in elevators, residential compounds demolished years ago that still lit up, and "people" mingling in the crowd who had no right to exist.
By day, the city belonged to millions of ordinary people.
After the night shift...
The city belonged to the dead.
And Meng Jibai's job was to set everything right before dawn.
Very good and worth watching.
