Xu Danian, twenty-eight, is the only officially appointed veterinarian at the veterinary station in Mopan Village. When the village chief threw out his back, the whole village hauled Xu up onto the kang bed. From then on, everyone for miles around knew that Veterinarian Xu specialized in difficult cases. It was just that his patients... weren't quite what you'd expect. He took pulses using the same technique he used to listen to pigs, and wrote prescriptions based on feed ratios. When the fraud inspectors showed up, even their backs stopped hurting. When the town planned to shut down the veterinary station, the whole village was the first to object. I'm just a veterinarian. Really, believe me.
The more veterinarians look at people, the more they look at them. There are lots of laughs, solid foreshadowing, and all the characters are vivid. Tomato is a rare good article with a real life background. Don't be put off by the title. If you click on it, you won't be able to get out.
