When Jiang Li opens her eyes, she has become the least-loved little daughter of the Jiang family in Liuxi Village.
The family is so poor the rice jar is almost empty, and relatives show up to bully them. Jiang Li rolls up her sleeves and leads her not-so-bright but fiercely protective family. They gather wild vegetables in the hills, make snacks, and set up a food stall, turning a battered old pot into the livelihood that feeds them all.
Grandpa is too stingy to spend money, Mom is in charge of scolding people, and each of her brothers has his own brand of foolishness. A down-on-his-luck young gentleman named A Du is brought home along the way. At first, he turns his nose up at farm food, but later he rushes to tend the fire, carry goods, and guard the stall. He says he "doesn't want to owe anyone," yet with every action he draws closer to Jiang Li.
From barely having enough to eat to opening the Li Ji Eatery, Jiang Li is determined to use her own skills to lead her whole family onto a lively, prosperous path.
