On the way home for the Mid-Autumn Festival, Xu Tang, her cousin Zhou Yi, a sergeant in a reconnaissance company, and her cousin Shen Qing, an emergency-room nurse, encounter a bizarre incident on a provincial highway and fall into a Chinese-style rules-horror scenario.
The familiar road home is completely transformed. An abandoned service area, a winding mountain road, an old station, and a village of ancient homes appear one after another. Cruel rules block their way, while the desperate urge to return home becomes a noose around their necks. Countless people heading home are trapped here, and the slightest violation makes them vanish into thin air.
The three struggle to survive, witnessing human selfishness and desperation and encountering apparitions of people from their past, conjured by their obsessions. The scenario grows more dangerous at every turn, spreading from the highway all the way to their own ancestral home, with warnings on wooden signs following them like shadows.
They must not only fight the traps of the supernatural scenario, but also face the longing and fear in their hearts. As they solve the rules and search for an exit, they record clues about the missing and report them, hoping to uncover the eerie truth surrounding countless people trying to get home and fight for a way to survive between "Go home" and "Do not return."
