The shrill screech of brakes, the blinding white light. These were Li Tang's final memories before her consciousness faded. She was twenty-two, fresh out of college. While everyone else was graduating into a bright future, she was graduating straight into unemployment. Riding her little electric scooter to her last interview, she was lost in thought when an out-of-control truck slammed into her head-on and sent her flying. As her eyes closed for good, Li Tang had just one thought: she had wasted her whole life.
Li Tang's eyes flew open, and her whole body stiffened. She had... transmigrated, and into the body of a newborn baby at that, in a parallel world where ghosts ran rampant and yin and yang were out of balance.
The cruelest truth about this world hit her right in the face.
There were practically no respectable jobs, and the employment rate was absurdly low. Ordinary people struggled to make ends meet, while yin-yang masters, spirit guides, and exorcists were always in demand, always highly paid, and never short of clients. Her new body's mother, Su Lan, was a stern woman with rigid rules. Her older brother was an ordinary, thoroughly timid person, a tagalong the whole way.
Her father was a hidden powerhouse who watched the show, doted on his daughter, and quietly had her back.
And Li Tang had transmigrated with nothing to her name, graduating straight into total unemployment. Desperate for a way to make a living, she wandered to Xuanqing Temple, the only old Taoist temple in the outskirts of the city. "Your birth chart attracts ghosts. Alone out there, you won't last three days."
Li Tang's scalp prickled. "Huh?!"
"Become my disciple and learn yin-yang arts. You'll be able to protect yourself, make money, and stay alive." Xie Xuan sounded utterly sincere. "Taking you on is your good fortune."
With nowhere else to turn and completely unemployed, fresh graduate Li Tang acted on impulse and fell for it on the spot. "I'll do it! I'll become your disciple!" A cup of tea served as her discipleship offering, and a few words sealed their master-disciple bond. From now on, she'd be handling all the little chores.
