[World Setting]
The blooming of a strange flower changes the humans on Earth. A substance called "agitation factor" develops inside men's bodies. Once the factor gets too high, they go berserk and hurt people, causing serious harm to society. Some women develop an aura called "soothing essence," which can calm men who have gone berserk. Through the government's efforts, agitation factors are brought down to a minimum, but some men's levels remain too high. They are eventually abandoned, and the government calls them "Drifters."
[Story Synopsis]
Liu Xinxin is reborn, returning to the time when she had adopted the great villain, Lu Chenyun, and they were living in a basement. Looking back on her previous life, she realizes she treated the great villain terribly. Yet he still stayed by her side, even going against the government to avenge her, before finally taking his own life.
Given another life, Liu Xinxin decides to live well with Lu Chenyun, heal him, and make up for the wrongs she committed before. She keeps drawing closer to him, indulging him, making him happy, and giving him a new identity. But as they spend day after day together, Liu Xinxin feels she cannot give him a better life. When a wealthy woman tries to steal him away, Liu Xinxin begins to waver and push Lu Chenyun away.
In the end, she enrages the great villain. He abandons his usual gentleness, locks her in a room, and refuses to let her leave. As they struggle and argue, she understands Lu Chenyun's love for her and gradually faces her own feelings. They choose each other.
But as the Drifters develop into weapons of human warfare and enter the wars between nations, Lu Chenyun is forced to separate from Liu Xinxin. The two are once again set on a difficult road.
