Night of the Zhulong

[Chinese-style mystery + two brilliant investigators]

A legal advocate and a fallen noblewoman.

At the third watch of the night, a bride died in the bridal chamber.

Her phoenix crown was still on, and the red candles had burned halfway down. Wax pooled on the candle stand, solidifying into a tiny white pagoda. The bride lay on her back, still covered by her veil. By local custom, on the wedding night, the groom had to lift that red cloth himself.

The groom lifted it.

There was no face beneath it. No one could tell if it was human or ghost...

The legal advocate Shen Jianwei, the male lead, took on this hopeless case because he spoke for the dead.

The fallen noblewoman Wen Jingtai, the female lead, assumed the name of an embroiderer and wrote letters for the living in the southern part of the city.

A great fire, an old case, and two fathers, each holding half of the puzzle.

They probed each other at their first meeting, and doubted each other even as they grew closer.

He was cold-eyed but warm-hearted, specializing in the hidden currents at court. She concealed her identity, seeking only to clear her family's name.

What secret was hidden in the "Night of the Candle Dragon" eighteen years ago?

The day the surviving pages of the autopsy report fit together with the examination notes was also the day two hearts understood each other's secret signals.

"The dead can't speak, so I speak for them."

"Letters can't express it all, so I write for them."

This is a story where the cases are chilling, but the people are warm. It has a happy ending.
