When Wen Li was twenty-five, the twenty-one-year-old Cheng Xu confessed his feelings for her.
She liked him so much her heart raced, but her insecurity and their four-year age gap made her cruelly reject him.
"Cheng Xu, you're still young."
Later, she finally understood her own feelings. She cut off her waist-length hair, traded it for a short, youthful style, and went to find him, only to see him holding another girl's hand with her own eyes.
She turned and left.
Cheng Xu chased after her, but she said the most hurtful things she could to make him give up on her.
The next day, Wen Li left the country in the middle of the night.
She was gone for three years.
When they met again, the boy who used to cling to her had become a cold, sharp-edged man.
He said he hated her, mocked her whenever they met, and made things difficult for her at every turn. Yet he carried her home when she got drunk, stayed up all night when she was sick, and completely lost control when another man pursued her.
Wen Li asked, "Cheng Xu, didn't you stop liking me ages ago?"
The man trapped her in his arms, his eyes red.
"I don't like you."
"So you'd better stop smiling at me."
"I'm afraid I won't be able to hold back."
Later, everyone knew that Cheng Xu pursued her with absolutely no dignity.
He brought her breakfast, picked her up after work, wrote apologies, and proactively kept her informed. He even got asked:
"Didn't you say you'd be a dog if you ever liked Wen Li again?"
Cheng Xu was silent for two seconds.
"Woof."
