[A decisive Grand Princess VS an uncompromising clan leader]
[An elegant mastermind who plans every move VS a family guardian shouldering the burden]
I, Shen Fanyin, am the Grand Princess who holds power over the court. The Chancellor, Xie Chian, and I are famous in the capital for being mortal enemies.
I grew up in the Cold Palace, so I’ve always done whatever it takes to achieve my goals. I deliberately framed the Xie family several times to further my own interests. Who knew that Xie Chian, that dog of a man, would take it to heart? Day after day, he denounces me in the Golden Hall for living extravagantly. I could plant one extra peony in my residence, and he’d accuse me of bringing ruin to the nation. Utterly detestable.
I despise this petty, graceless man. People must be blind to think that a man who only considers his own family has such noble character, or that he’d truly sacrifice his own interests for their sake and act like a saint without a trace of selfishness.
I truly hate him.
Once, I thought there was nothing between us but life and death. But at some point, he picked up the gold hairpin I’d casually tossed aside and began keeping it close to his heart every day. He loved me passionately yet held himself in check, never daring to let me find out.
Then, one winter, my father used me as a bargaining chip with another country to bring back my eldest brother, the Crown Prince, who had been captured. Xie Chian rode back to the capital overnight from wherever he was. He drew his sword and, heedless of my father’s authority, moved to cut down the soldiers surrounding me. Only then could I believe he had truly gone mad.
He knew perfectly well that doing so would destroy the Xie family he had struggled so hard to protect, yet he still chose to lose his mind. I really don’t understand him.
Neither the hero nor heroine is perfect, and neither is a good person.
