The story begins with an ordinary boy from the Ming family named Ming Xiaonan. During the war between immortals and demons, it is said that the very moment the Dark God of the demon realm died was the moment Ming Xiaonan was born. A trail of purple smoke flew out of the formation and straight into the space between his brows. Thus, a curse was laid: twenty years later, the Dark God would use the body of a descendant of the Ming family to avenge her death. His father, Ming Xuan, and the others were occupied elsewhere, and by the time they wanted to stop it, it was already too late.
Afterward, everyone cleaned up the scene and gathered to discuss what to do. The Ming family elders all advised killing the child right away to prevent future trouble. But the Ming family represented the immortal realm, and killing a child like that would be rather unmerciful. So they decided to leave him for the time being in the remote Northern Courtyard of the Ming family, where he would have little contact with others. He was also forbidden to practice the family's spells. If he crossed the line in any way during those twenty years, he would be killed immediately, without mercy.
And so, the child learned from a young age to endure loneliness.
