It is obviously a Western fantasy novel, but it has a Chinese-style fantasy flavor. Except for the names of the people, which are Western-style, everything else is Chinese-style, and there are a lot of common Chinese four-character words. It's not that the writing isn't good, it's that the writing isn't right.
