In 1998, in Jiangcheng, Huaguo, Chen Nan is a street punk from the shantytown who steals chickens and dogs. His biggest dream in life is to save enough money to try his luck in the Special Economic Zone. Then a once-in-a-century rainstorm sweeps across the city. A mutated virus carried by the rain brings the dead back to life and drives the living mad. Even more absurdly, after Chen Nan steals money from an elderly neighbor who has fallen down, he triggers the forced binding of the Saintly Mother System. With his evil score through the roof, he has to do good deeds and build up merit to lower it, or the System will strip away his sight, hearing, and even his ability to speak. A cowardly, miserly lowlife with a thief's heart but no guts is forced to play the saint in the apocalypse. He curses the idiots in his heart while smiling as he rescues people; he says, "I'm only doing this for the points," while his body rushes to the front without hesitation. From the shantytown to the Nanxing Camp, from standing alone to having countless people follow him, Chen Nan slowly becomes the kind of person he once mocked, one "forced good deed" at a time. This is a story about "a bad person forced to do good deeds who eventually really becomes a good person." The apocalypse is cold, but his System is warm, though he'd never admit it.
