P.S. The protagonist is a data lifeform. His body is a printed puppet with no gender.

The future era...

As technology advanced, human lifespans grew longer and the population increased, until humans occupied ninety percent of Earth's available space.

Earth had achieved complete peace. Human society had no war or hunger, and everyone was equal.

But the planet's animals, plants, and resources were becoming increasingly scarce. After representatives of humanity joined together to discuss the matter, they developed a device that could convert mental entities.

People of the future abandoned their physical bodies and became digital lifeforms.

Vast streams of data revolved around Earth. No one was born or died naturally anymore.

Digital lifeforms could set their own futures. Once they reached the endings they had chosen, law enforcers would erase their memories and make them relive their designed lives.

That was how digital lifeforms were born and died.

As the cycles went on, the emotions of people in the future grew increasingly faint, and violent incidents became frequent.

Overwhelmed, the law enforcers decided through the council to launch the "Retracing Project" in order to pass on humanity and preserve emotions.

They would open dimensional gates and transmigrate to the ancient past, disguising themselves as people of that era to experience the emotions humanity once possessed.

After the project was announced, Xie En signed up to experience emotions and transmigrated to the ancient world through a dimensional gate.

Bonus Scene:

Xie En: I'm just a hermit crab carrying a pretty shell on my back.

Zhang Qiling: Come out and eat, little crab.
