Qiao Ce is so broke he’s about to take down his studio’s sign when he accepts an emergency gig: save a new-product launch with only four hours to go.
After the advance payment arrives, the client’s unspoken true wish appears before his eyes: I hope this event goes spectacularly wrong.
This hidden wish appears only once per job. It doesn’t tell him the truth, and it won’t fix a black screen, a crew walking out, an overrun budget, or a last-minute change. All Qiao Ce can do is lay out the contract and reorganize the people and resources still available, making sure each event that should have gone wrong is actually delivered.
Some people want the event to fail so they can seize power. Some are simply too ashamed to admit they’ve lost their jobs. Others want to save an old wall that’s destined to be torn down.
From all-purpose firefighter to a manager who knows where to draw the line, Qiao Ce and his partners have to deliver more than just an event. They have to build a company that can run without the boss staying up all night to take the blame.
