In 2039, the twelfth year after the Forbidden Zones appeared, nineteen-year-old Zhou Wuzun ventures alone into the Inverted Lake to find a Divine Ability Fruit and keep his sister's life-support pod running. He plans to sell it to pay for her treatment, but someone tries to steal it during the transaction. On the verge of death, he discovers that he has awakened an immortality ability, and a black ghost wearing a crown has appeared behind him. Others can't see her, yet she casually forces the Divine Ability user who had just been acting so arrogantly to his knees. Each time he comes back to life, another of the seven ghosts awakens, each with different abilities. They can fight on their own or become soul armor, letting Zhou Wuzun wield different powers. To save his sister, he must earn enough to pay for her life-support pod and find the legendary Phoenix Divine Ability Fruit. But the first one to appear, the "Empress," seems to be developing a will of her own.
