[Dual male leads] [Sickly, aloof, and vindictive former regent bottom] x [Devoted, obsessive, loyal-dog minister top] [Ancient political intrigue] [Powerful rivals] [Pursuit after the breakup] [Reconciliation] [Everyday life raising a child]
Three years ago, Ling Fengyu personally shot Ji Youning off the Ironrope Cliff.
The whole world said Ji Youning had plotted against the late emperor, slaughtered princes, and masterminded the "Falling Star Incident."
Even if Ling Fengyu had loved him with all his heart, so what?
Ling Fengyu hated him. Why had he betrayed his ideals and his oath to become a treacherous minister who stole the throne?
Three years later, while fighting an epidemic in Jiangnan, Ling Fengyu, the chief councilor, was trapped in Guiyun Town.
The man who should have been nothing but bones and dust appeared before him once more:
Dressed in rough clothes and looking every bit the physician, he was still so aloof that Ling Fengyu hated him to the bone, yet could not stop himself from drawing near.
But Ji Youning treated him like a stranger, avoiding him and running from him again and again!
If he had the nerve to do it, why hide and run?!
Ling Fengyu could not understand. What gave this "traitor" the right to act as if he were the one who had been betrayed and hurt?
Until he saw with his own eyes...
The blood Ji Youning coughed up staining his pale fingertips red;
The clever young man he shielded fiercely behind him.
When the truth came too late, and the faith he had held for years was torn apart by desire,
Ling Fengyu's world finally collapsed.
He knelt before his dying beloved, eyes bloodshot, voice hoarse and broken:
"Youning, I was wrong. I'll give you my life in return. Please... look at me one more time..."
