Zhan Mingyou was an agent in a modern special operations unit, code-named Shadow Cat. On his final mission, an ancient jade pendant containing the spirit of a nine-tailed underworld cat swept him into a rift in time. His soul transmigrated to Great Sheng, where he became the second young master of the household of the martial arts alliance leader. He forgot his past, but his instincts as an agent remained: catlike lightness, a genius for solving cases, and a reputation throughout the martial world as the Southern Hero, Shadow Cat.
In the north, however, lived a jade mouse: Bai Jingchen, courtesy name Poyun, whose blade was named Jinghong. He was peerlessly charming. Cats and mice are natural enemies, yet they collided in a pleasure house. Corpses burned with white phosphorus, a case of chaos at the imperial ancestral temple, a marriage bestowed by imperial decree, an invasion from the southern tribes... Step by step, sworn enemies became a destined couple, and natural adversaries became each other's only beloved.
Until the jade mouse's demon form was exposed and Shadow Cat severed his own tail to save him. Nine tails, and for every one severed, a piece of the past is forgotten. For the rest of his life, he owed a debt to one little mouse, and he would repay it with his life.
