After Becoming a Broken Inkstone, I Help a Down-and-Out Scholar Conquer the Imperial Exams

[Historical Farming] [Political Schemes and Infrastructure] [Sweet Romance] [Imperial Examinations] [Character Growth]

Xie Qingchen, a poor scholar from a farming family, spent all the family's money on an old Duan inkstone with a chipped corner, and treasured it like a rare gem.

Little did he know that Mo Wuhuan, a Chinese teacher, had transmigrated into the inkstone as its ink spirit.

Looking at the nonsensical eight-legged essays Xie Qingchen had written, her professional instincts kicked in.

She couldn't bear the torture of that shoddy ink any longer, and couldn't help controlling the brush to write comments on the paper:

“Good grief, this is complete nonsense! Rewrite it!”

Xie Qingchen was shocked, thinking an ancient sage had manifested. Every day, he ground the ink reverently and sought her advice.

To keep from revealing that she was a modern person, and to trick him into providing her with the finest ink,

Mo Wuhuan had no choice but to grit her teeth, spout classical Chinese, and pretend to be a profound old scholar.

Using her mental library of Chinese classics, she tutored him relentlessly.

Xie Qingchen went on to place first in the imperial examinations and rise to Grand Secretary, while Mo Wuhuan finally absorbed enough literary energy to take physical form.

She thought she could retire after completing her mission and spend her days sampling the finest inks in the world.

But the cold-faced Grand Secretary, who held power over the entire court, cornered her in his study, the corners of his eyes reddening as he spoke in a tender voice:

“Huan'er, you said a drop of kindness should be repaid with a spring of gratitude! It's time to repay me in full!”
