The story takes place in Linjiang, a river city in the south. There is an old street in Huaiyin District that is waiting for demolition. It is called Huaiyin Street on maps and street signs, but the elderly still call it "Yinsi Street". There used to be a funeral shop, a watch repair shop, an old photo studio, a small hotel and an abandoned street office.
During the day, Yinsi Street is just an ordinary old street with a population loss and closed shops. Between 0:00 and 4:00, some house numbers will enter the "yin layer": the deceased who have been forgotten, registered incorrectly, or have no one to clear up will return along the old house numbers. In reality, household registration, contracts, photos and witness relationships will form constraints at the level of yin registration.
The office cannot resurrect the dead, nor can it kill people at will. It can only accept errors, verify facts, let parties choose a price and complete settlement. Every time a valid commission is completed, there will be one more stable light on the street; within the range of the light, the names and memories of living people will not be easily tampered with by the underworld.
