History graduate student Shen Zhao transmigrates into the deposed, supposedly mad empress of the Jing Dynasty. From the start, she berates Grand Secretary Xiao Huaijin so fiercely in the Golden Throne Hall that he loses his composure. Emperor Zhao Heng wants to depose her, but discovers that every time she "goes mad," she precisely exposes a festering sore at court. Under the guise of madness, Shen Zhao investigates the original empress's wrongful conviction and accidentally uncovers the secret plot between Prince Xiao Yuanlang and the Grand Secretary to rebel. Court physician Song Lingwei secretly passes her clues about poison, while General's daughter Xie Yunheng brings her a secret letter and offers her support. On one side is the emperor's increasingly heated gaze as he tests her; on the other is the prince's tempting offer of the empress's throne. Shen Zhao sneers: "Why don't I teach you all how to rule this realm?"
