A rift in time and space opens in Douluo Dalu, and strange beasts from the ancient world of Mountains and Seas descend. The ancient deity Di Jiang falls, and its lingering resentment transforms into the divine envoys of the Seven Deadly Sins. They use the negative emotions in people's hearts to corrupt the continent and stir conflict between the empire and the sects.
Lin Yuan, an auditing student at Nuoding City, was once dismissed as a good-for-nothing. By chance, he awakens a fragment of the Nine-Headed Infant Martial Soul and inherits the bloodline powers to devour sinful thoughts and command water and fire. Each time he devours sin, his power surges, but he must also endure the backlash of that sin, caught between falling into darkness and protecting others.
He meets Lei Hong, a Soul Master tormented by the power of Wrath, and crosses paths with Su Manli, who is sometimes friend and sometimes foe, as well as Mo Wuya, a Titled Douluo who sleeps as he battles a curse. Together, they travel across the continent in search of Mountains and Seas soul pearls and fight the divine envoys of the Seven Deadly Sins.
As all sinful thoughts converge and the Chaos Behemoth awakens, Lin Yuan must forge a third path: one that keeps him from being consumed by sin and does not end the punishment of sin with destruction, so that he can protect this world.
