Jiang Wanning, 24, works the night shift at a convenience store in a rental room in an urban village. Her mother died young, her father is an alcoholic and a gambler, and her younger brother shamelessly lives off her. Her biggest dream in life is simply to move out of that damp, leaky rental room and stop being treated like an ATM by everyone.
Then, on a stormy night, she shared her umbrella with the deliveryman who had just moved into the apartment across the hall.
The System bound itself to her, and she began her rise from the bottom, going from a convenience store all the way to the headquarters of Shengtin Group. But gradually, she realized that the deliveryman who always waited downstairs for her to finish work seemed to do more than deliver packages. The way he taped up boxes suggested experience in logistics, he casually said "easier to collect evidence" when cornering someone, and when he stood before her father, there was an ease in his expression that spoke of someone accustomed to major events.
Only later did she learn that his name was Jiang Ye, the long-missing heir to the Jiang Group, who had hidden in the urban village to avoid an arranged marriage.
What surprised her even more was that her mother's last job before she died had been with the Jiang family.
He said, "The first time I saw you, I thought you looked like her."
Those words brought to light a story buried for more than a decade, and fate pushed two people from entirely different worlds back toward each other.
