The magnetic poles reverse, and an endless freezing rain begins to fall. A meteorologist warned everyone a year in advance, but nobody took it seriously.
Su Nian didn’t take it seriously either. She was twenty-six, a former kindergarten teacher, and her biggest problem was how boring her blind date was. Until one night, she received an orange alert message, stood up from the dinner table, and never returned.
She headed north all the way back to the small town where she grew up, and took shelter in an abandoned community center. In the basement was an old radio that could receive but not transmit. She turned the dial and heard an old woman giving the weather report in the style of twenty years ago. Then came a second voice, then a third. Someone was calling out, “Is anyone still there?”
Su Nian is no chosen one. She has no supernatural abilities, no pocket dimension, and no System. Her only weapon is “knowing how to comfort children,” and her only golden finger is “still being willing to trust other people.”
This is a story about how to survive at minus forty degrees, and also about “why we should keep living.”
“This is Warm Light. It’s snowing today. If you can still hear this, you’re still here.”
