Historical fantasy · political intrigue · soul displacement · doomed romance
If a single soul is split in two by heavenly lightning, and each half lives a different life, do the two love stories still count as having been lived by the same person?
Pei Zhiyu, a high school senior, wakes after being struck by lightning in the body of Pei Shiyan, the only son of the Grand Tutor in an ancient kingdom. The Seventh Prince, Xiao Jinglian, has shared twelve years of childhood friendship with him. Though he knows Pei Shiyan has “forgotten,” he says only, “It doesn’t matter if you’re still you. I know you.”
To rewrite Xiao Jinglian’s fate of “disappearing without a trace,” Pei Zhiyu travels far to Huangsha in search of medicine, where he meets the aloof, stoic Second Prince, Chunyu Zhaoyu. One is sharp-tongued, afraid of death, and full of flaws; the other dares not fall in love because his mother died from the forbidden art, the Heart-Burning Pact. They go from testing each other to falling helplessly in love, yet both believe they love only “someone else.” He thinks he has stolen another person’s body and so does not deserve this love; the other believes this love is fleeting and could vanish at any moment.
