Su Yao stayed up all night reading a novel, cursed the foolish cannon-fodder character, then woke up as the novel's cannon-fodder stepsister, who was bullied to death by her stepmother and stepsister.
Her stepmother cuts her food rations? She smiles and smashes her bowl. "Auntie Liu, my father's work points feed me, not you."
Her stepsister hides her things? She retaliates by cutting up the stepsister's most prized shirt. "Touch my things again, and next time I'll cut your face."
Everyone in the village says the Su family's daughter has gone crazy, but no one dares provoke her to her face.
Until one day, she "accidentally" crashes into a cold-faced officer's arms.
His name is Lu Chen. He has powerful connections and a bright future, and he's the man her stepsister has been dreaming of marrying.
Su Yao looks up at him, eyes reddened. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..."
Lu Chen's ears turn red, and he walks away with a stern face.
Later, Lu Chen takes her to the capital to meet his family.
Old Master Lu slaps the table. "I like this girl! Anyone who bullies her will have to answer to me!"
Lu's mother slips a family heirloom bracelet onto her wrist. "Good girl, you've suffered so much."
Lu Chen's little sister clings to her arm. "Sister-in-law, if my brother bullies you, I'll help you beat him up!"
Her stepmother and stepsister are furious, but they can't even touch the hem of Su Yao's clothes.
As for Lu Chen, she's already got him wrapped around her finger, and he's more than happy about it.
Su Wan watches from the corner, digging her nails into her flesh. That should have been her life.
Su Yao gives her a sweet smile. "Little sister, you can't steal what's not yours."
