[Beast Taming] [Interstellar] [Passionate] [Growth] [Combat]
Lin Jin snatched an Ash Crow from the incinerator.
Before he could even bring up how he'd saved its life, it bit him.
Number Seven was missing three flight feathers and couldn't fly straight. It knew how to play dead, and even after he gave it a piece of meat, it guarded the rest beneath its claws. The test report said it had failed three bonding attempts and was no longer worth raising.
But when Lin Jin put on the old gloves his father had left behind, he saw things the report had missed.
How source energy flowed through the roots of its wings, and where it was being blocked; how his opponent's shoulder had tensed to strike, while the nose turned the other way tried to fool him.
He called this ability Beast Taming Deduction.
Bad training techniques could be corrected, and abandoned training paths could be tried again. Even the standard answers locked away in expensive databases were not necessarily right for the Ash Crow in front of him.
The first time Number Seven gathered ash along its feather edge, it left only a shallow scratch on a wooden board.
Later, that same feather edge sliced beneath a powerful enemy's raised wrist, and blood ran down its heavy armor.
Training materials had to be fought for, and powerful foes blocking the way had to be beaten. Lin Jin wanted to take Number Seven farther into the skies, and find out what had happened in the accident that took his father. Following the trail through an old interface, he discovered that discarded spirit beasts were still being sent somewhere else.
Humanity had already reached the stars through Beast Taming. Starports shipped out batches of training resources every day. Some people studied new paths of evolution, while others pondered how to make spirit beasts obey forever.
Lin Jin looked down at Number Seven.
The little rascal wouldn't even listen when it came to the last bite of meat.
But when it really came down to a fight for their lives, Number Seven would fly back on its own.
