After Wei Wuxian and Meng Yao Were Taken In by the Lan Clan as Children

Official title: A Place to Return in the Clouds

CP: XiYao*WangXian

I know lots of people have written about this premise, but I still want to give it a try,

because I had a little vinegar and ended up making a whole plate of dumplings out of the extra chapter.

Wei Wuxian is still Wei Wuxian.

He can take apart talismans, alter formations, make Lan Qiren punish him by copying the sect rules, and chase the stone-faced Second Young Master Lan all over the Cloud Recesses.

It's just that in this life, he never lost his golden core or got driven to the Burial Mounds.

So the astonishing talents that would have led him down the path of demonic cultivation instead become talismanic formations and spiritual artifacts on the battlefield, giving countless cultivators a chance to survive.

Meng Yao is still Meng Yao.

He's clever, perceptive, good at reading people, ambitious, and always striving to climb higher.

It's just that when he was seven, someone brought him and his mother out of the mud.

From then on, he no longer had to spend his whole life begging for entry through the gates of the Lanling Jin Clan.

His money can rebuild the Cloud Recesses after the war. His strategies can bring a war to an end. The intelligence he once used to read people's hearts can become a network of watchtowers scattered across the land.

The Gusu Lan Clan never erased their true natures.

Wei Wuxian is still a rebel who defies convention.

Meng Yao is still fiercely ambitious.

It's just that in this life, someone tells them early on:

Extraordinary methods don't have to lead to a dead end.

And reaching greater heights doesn't have to mean climbing over a pile of corpses.

If they had been given a better home as children,

would they still have become the Wei Wuxian and Jin Guangyao they became?

Yes.

But this time, they finally have a better path to take.
