The world has fallen into a dream.
Forty-eight years ago, the former civilization released the black fog that blocked the sky and the sun - it was not a natural disaster, but nanomachines, the last anchor to hold the earth back and prevent it from completely slipping into the dreamland. Today, the prophecy of Cthulhu's awakening is approaching, and humans know nothing about it. The survivors huddled in the "Mist Zone", clinging to their last breaths around the remaining urban areas: the geography was distorted in the black fog, and mythical creatures roamed; inside the circle was a separatist jungle without power - factory owners squeezed workers to sixteen hours, treated "prostitutes" as special food, and conveniently sold strike lists to ghouls in the sewers.
Bai Junlang, who has a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering, is a staunch materialist and a mystic who believes that "magic is just science that has not yet been understood." In order to survive the disaster, he and his lover Guanyuetong cast spells on each other, turning themselves into undead that could not be killed - they could recover as long as they were not cut into pieces; they had no body temperature and no heartbeat.
