Transmigrated Into a War Zone, I Build Modern Weapons for Our Forebears

"Don't be afraid. I'm here this time."

Kneeling in blood-soaked mud, she places a still-warm assault rifle in the hands of a sixteen-year-old soldier.

Cheng Nian is an ordinary military museum docent. Every day, she tells the history of the old rifles behind glass display cases, until her voice goes hoarse and tears stream down her face.

She will never forget her grandfather's last words: "Niannian, back then, three of us had to share one rifle."

An accident sends her tumbling into the flames of war in 1940. Her phone still works, but there's no signal.

Then she discovers that if she opens a photo of a weapon in her phone gallery and traces its outline with her finger, the weapon will "grow" out of the screen and become real.

QBZ-95 rifles, bulletproof vests, first-aid kits, thermal imaging devices...

Like someone sending a package from the future, she places one "impossible" item after another in the soldiers' hands.

But every time she recreates a weapon, one of her memories disappears.

She starts forgetting what her parents look like, forgetting her own name, forgetting the way home.

She knows that one day, she will forget everything.

But she says, "As long as they survive, it doesn't matter if I forget."
