By the banks of the Yellow River, the New First Regiment had set up camp and was cooking a meal. Li Yunlong gazed at the river, unfamiliar memories from the future surfacing in his mind as he reflected on how much the world had changed. Just as he sat down to eat, a sentry reported that the vanguard of the 772nd Regiment had reached the riverbank.

Looking at the 772nd Regiment's well-equipped troops, with their brand-new Czech light machine guns, Maxim heavy machine guns, and mortars, Li Yunlong couldn't help envying them. Many soldiers in his own New First Regiment still carried tasselled spears and were desperately short of ammunition.

Then he spotted an old comrade from the ranks, Cheng Xiazi. The two greeted each other with jokes and banter, reminiscing about fighting side by side during the Red Army days.

After the joking, they discussed their current predicament. The Jin-Sui Army had blocked the New First Regiment earlier, preventing them from crossing the river. Li Yunlong proposed that the two units join forces. If the Jin-Sui Army dared to block their path again, they would not back down. Cheng Xiazi immediately agreed.
