Jiang Wanxing stood by the bed and handed over the divorce agreement.
Lu Chenzhou leaned against the headboard without even lifting his eyelids.
In their two years of marriage, he had summoned and dismissed his wife at will, treasured Yun Shanshan like she was precious, and treated Jiang Wanxing like a mere tool: no temper, no boundaries, and too meek to leave no matter how badly he mistreated her.
But she was dying.
Her heart had only a few months left. She held the critical-condition notice in her hand, but couldn't be bothered to show him. He wouldn't believe her anyway.
"Let's get divorced."
Lu Chenzhou gave a laugh, haughty and scornful. "Who else would want you once we're divorced? Jiang Wanxing, know your place."
Jiang Wanxing said nothing.
Only later did he learn that the heart he had despised was the one she had personally given him years ago. The woman he cherished as his white moonlight had taken on an identity Jiang Wanxing had discarded. The small-town girl he looked down on was the biological daughter the richest man in the country had spent twenty years searching for.
Later still, he knelt in the rain, his eyes red and his voice hoarse beyond recognition. "Jiang Wanxing, you made me fall for you and then threw me away. What gives you the right?"
Jiang Wanxing held an umbrella, looking down at him.
"You'd grown tiresome to me, Mr. Lu."
"That's it?"
"That's it."
