Who Says Diviners Can Only Tell Fortunes? I Can Break Fate and Defy Heaven

Ye Zhiyi transmigrates into the body of an impoverished scholar and unexpectedly awakens a congenital divination compass, cultivating the Dao through the sixty-four hexagrams of the I Ching. He settles in Locust Blossom Lane in Qinghe Town. A sweet osmanthus tree grows in his courtyard, and an old civet cat lives beneath it. He charges nothing for his readings. Each time he helps someone escape hardship, another line on his compass lights up.

The bitter well at the tea shop turns sweet, the private school teacher gets his voice back, and A-Man's father recovers from his back injury. The neighbors all say there's a living immortal in the lane. But no one knows that each reading adds another debt to Heaven's ledger. The stronger Ye Zhiyi becomes, the dimmer the life flames of those around him grow.

Until one day, a tiny figure wrapped in dark red chains walks along the riverbank. She is A-Sang, a hexagram-devouring slave of the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion. She has eaten many people, and countless anguished faces hang from her chains. Ye Zhiyi takes her home. In time, the hexagram-stripping slave learns to cook porridge, the Obstruction Hexagram slave brews her first jar of soy sauce, and the Great Abundance slave finishes telling her final story.

The osmanthus tree in Locust Blossom Lane has bloomed for thirty years and shed its blossoms for thirty years. The day the divination compass is filled is the day Heaven comes to collect its debt.
