Synopsis
When special forces instructor Zhao Che opens his eyes, he finds himself in the body of a surviving descendant caught up in the witchcraft disaster at the end of Emperor Wu of Han's reign. Powerful ministers dominate the court, Xiongnu cavalry hammer at the passes, and the Han dynasty hangs like a dying candle in the wind. Armed with modern tactics and memories of the future, he fights his way up from a border garrison foot soldier. He recruits Huo Wuyou to build a spy network and allies with Huo Guang to stabilize the court. But Liu Bingyi, grandson of the deposed crown prince, is gradually coming of age, while the ambitions of a steppe hostage are spiraling beyond control. Zhao Che must choose between settling accounts at home and expanding the borders abroad. As he rebuilds the empire, will he be a minister who restores its glory, or another usurper? It all begins with the first battle beneath a beacon tower on the Great Wall. Turning the tide is no one man's achievement, but a perilous gamble made in league with a tiger.
