The Lament of Light is an urban apocalyptic sci-fi mystery novel.
On the day extreme heat engulfed the city, equipment maintenance worker Chen Mo discovered that the air conditioning, power supply, and alarm systems weren't the only things malfunctioning. Abnormal loads spread through the city's underground network, while inexplicable gaps appeared one after another in hospitals, neighborhoods, and the transport system. People who should have been rescued were also quietly disappearing amid the chaos.
Traveling with disease control worker Lin Wan, deliveryman He Xiao, and a growing group of survivors, Chen Mo traces the clues left behind by an organization called Chenhui through work orders, repeated power outages, and modified equipment. Using old access permissions, it infiltrated the emergency response chain and turned the crisis engulfing the city into a selection process.
While the sun still hung overhead, what was truly being taken away was people's trust in the light, in order, and in one another.
