The emperor of the Great Qian Empire died suddenly of illness, and the crown prince, Murong Yunjin, was hurriedly enthroned.
The court was beset by internal and external troubles. Natural disasters ravaged the land, leaving the people homeless and destitute. Powerful enemies surrounded the empire, and rival armies watched like tigers waiting to pounce.
After ascending the throne, the young emperor Murong Yunjin unexpectedly bonded with the Imperial Jade Seal, gaining the ability to travel freely between two worlds.
His first stop was Hengdian. Seeing an actor suspended from wires, he thought he had arrived in the Immortal Realm, since only immortals were said to fly through the air.
Some of the immortal maidens, however, dressed rather boldly, making the young emperor turn away in embarrassment and mutter, "See no evil!"
Several towering buildings rose in the distance, their tops reaching into the clouds. He tilted his head back, unable to see their roofs. "How many people can live in those?"
And instead of carriages on the roads, he saw immortals climbing into iron boxes that moved without oxen or horses pulling them. "Truly a method of the immortals! They have made lifeless things come alive."
Though the Immortal Realm was beautiful, the young emperor still wanted to return home.
As an emperor, Murong Yunjin could not abandon his subjects, who were suffering terribly, and stay behind to enjoy himself in the Immortal Realm.
As he pondered this, a young man approached the emperor in his dragon robe. "Hey, man, we could really use your help. The actor playing the emperor in our production isn't answering. How about giving it a try? We'll provide all the boxed meals you can eat, plus wages."
The young emperor couldn't understand what he was saying, but his stomach was rumbling. He could figure everything else out after getting a meal.
"Immortal, I'll take the job."
Later, the young emperor learned that this place was not the Immortal Realm. But their country was prosperous, and its people lived happy, comfortable lives. What did it matter if it wasn't the Immortal Realm?
Traveling between the two worlds, the young emperor used modern knowledge and goods to lead the people of the Great Qian Empire to full stomachs, warm clothes, and good homes. He ushered in a golden age for Great Qian, with all nations coming to pay tribute.
