[Historical Mystery + A Powerful Duo + Slow-Burn Romance + Courtroom Intrigue]

Twelve years ago, Xie Huaizhang, an official in the Ministry of Revenue, died in prison under the accusation of embezzlement. His six-year-old daughter, Xie Pengning, was sent to Xiangyang, and from then on became the daughter of a convicted official.

Twelve years later, she returned to the capital with an old marriage contract. She had hoped to use the help of her former fiancé to investigate the old case, but on his wedding night, she watched him die in the bridal chamber and became the prime suspect herself.

The man who interrogates her is Jiang Xu Wei, a stern, rule-abiding junior official at the Court of Judicial Review. She is good at playing dumb and hiding her edge, and dares to use herself as bait. He trusts evidence, not people, yet time and again he makes exceptions for her and takes a blade meant for her.

A missing ledger, a vanished bride, and an autumn terrace sealed for years gradually reveal a deadly scheme among the powerful, spanning twelve years. Everyone tells Xie Pengning to stop investigating. Only Jiang Xu Wei stands by her side. “I'll investigate the case, and I'll make sure you stay alive, too.”

She wants to clear her father's name. He wants to uphold the law he believes in. But when the truth points deep into the imperial court, they realize that the greatest danger is not the killer lurking in the shadows, but the fact that they know the road ahead is a trap and still choose to entrust each other with their backs and their hearts.
