At the school's end-of-term showcase, Yan Yang plays Jia Zheng.
The teacher asks him, "If you really became Jia Zheng, what would you do first?"
Standing ramrod straight onstage, he answers, "First, I'd set the household in order. Strict discipline, a harsh crackdown, then a thorough purge."
Then he really does become Jia Zheng.
From that day on, the Rongguo Mansion has its own "disciplinary inspector." He investigates the servants and forbids them from having affairs, investigates the stewards and forbids them from embezzling, and audits the accounts to make sure no one is falsifying them. Grandmother Jia falls silent, Madam Wang sighs, and Fengjie starts going out of her way to avoid him. For the first time, Jia Baoyu is summoned for a talk. He comes back and stays silent for the rest of the day.
Yan Yang: I'm just an ordinary, incredibly handsome guy. Why do I have to be the disciplinary secretary of the Jia family?
But, well, I'm already here.
