Xiao Kui of Daowai

In the eighties, Daowai was a place of mixed company and tangled loyalties.

Old alleyways, video halls, taverns, and pool rooms: the rules here weren't written in law, but in the ways of the underworld.

The tough-boned young Xiaokui clawed his way up from the bottom. He took the fall for his brothers and got drawn into trouble for loyalty, taking one step at a time between human ties and flashing blades.

No one is born a kingpin. They become hard men because they're forced to. Loyalty and scheming intertwine; brotherhood clashes with profit. One wrong step means no way back.

Wherever there are people, there is a jianghu.

This land of Daowai bears witness to an ordinary man's rise and fall, and reveals every shade of warmth and sorrow in the underworld of everyday life.
