The 1970s: On My Wedding Night, I Turned the Tide with a Scalpel

Gu Jin'an, an ace surgeon, is reborn as a delicate young woman in the 1970s.

From the start, she jumps into a river to escape an arranged marriage, then turns around and marries a disfigured, paralyzed soldier.

The whole village waits to see when this pampered girl will go crying back to her parents' home.

Until...

With just a sewing needle, she saves the old village party secretary on a kang after a barefoot doctor has given up on him.

With a few handfuls of wild herbs, she brews an anti-inflammatory salve as good as a miracle drug.

Later, she makes penicillin in a dilapidated courtyard and performs the first brain surgery at the local clinic.

The gloomy, silent man uses the one arm he can still move to hold up a sky for her.

Everyone says she picked up a good-for-nothing. But the day he stands again, the entire military region is shaken.

"They called me a cripple," he says hoarsely. "Then I'll crawl back from hell and conquer an empire for you."
