Tomb Raiding: A Century of Vines

A mountain of headcanons.

Zhang Heng transmigrated through the Bronze Gate and turned into a vine.

No hands, no feet, and no ability to speak. All she could see was a door she couldn’t push open. Luckily, she was bound to a System, and completing missions earned her time in human form. The missions were all about filling in the blanks, patching up every plot hole in the Tomb-Raiding saga.

The first time she took human form, the door kicked her straight out. She crashed onto the deck of the Nan’an in 1915, landing right in Zhang Haiqi’s arms.

Zhang Heng glanced at the cold-faced woman with a knife and immediately dropped to her knees. “Master, please accept this disciple’s bow!”

Zhang Haiqi: “I don’t take disciples.”

Zhang Heng: “Fine, I’ll keep pestering you until you do.”

At first, she really thought she was just there to watch the show. She knew the plot inside out, and these people were just characters in a story to her. She’d stay long enough, fill in the plot holes, then go home. That was it.

Only later did she discover that the missions the System gave her weren’t meant to earn her more time in human form.

They were meant to keep Zhang Haiqi alive.

The vine had grown for a hundred years. The one she was guarding wasn’t the gate, but the person inside it, asleep for a hundred years.
