The Foolish Prince's Hapless Guard

Wu Fei was transported into a game. He had only one task: help the Seventh Prince, Zheng Jue, claim the throne.

The day he completed the task, he would be able to return to the real world.

OK, no problem there. But why was the Seventh Prince an idiot??? Though he was a little dim, how could he also be so adorable and so caring? It was like raising a son.

Wu Fei accepted his fate. He would comfort him and look after him until he got better.

But after Zheng Jue really did recover, things started to go wrong.

The silly little prince was gone, replaced by a calm, scheming Seventh Prince who planned several moves ahead. And Wu Fei realized he had started missing the little fool who used to sneak into his bed in the middle of the night.

Even worse, he realized he didn't want to complete the task anymore.

Every step Zheng Jue took toward the throne was one step farther away from Wu Fei. The day the task was completed would be the day Wu Fei disappeared. Suddenly, he was afraid. He started urging Zheng Jue to slow down, to be cautious, not to rush. Zheng Jue asked him why, but Wu Fei couldn't say.

Zheng Jue thought he had fallen out of love with him.

"You don't want me to win?"

"I want you to win. But I don't want you to become like this."

Zheng Jue didn't listen. He climbed toward the throne one step at a time, each move sure, precise, and ruthless. Wu Fei watched him maneuver against others, set traps, and forge political marriages, as the warmth in his heart slowly faded. He tried to persuade him and tried to stop him, but Zheng Jue only thought Wu Fei had betrayed him, and did things that hurt him even more.

Wu Fei's heart died.

So be it. If you want the throne, I won't stop you anymore. I'll help you get the throne you want. Once you're seated on it, I'll have to leave...
