"Life is unpredictable. One minute you're fine, the next you're in over your head."
(This is a down-to-earth urban sitcom about everyday life. No wallowing in misery or saving the world here. Nothing beats a warm bed with your wife and a dragon cadging food.)
Three months ago, the Void Game invaded reality. Thirty-eight-year-old Chen Shan thought the world was coming to an end, so he couldn't be bothered to pay off his credit card.
But the defenses held strong, the world didn't end, and before long, the big corporation had "optimized" him right out of his middle-aged job.
To secretly earn money for baby formula without worrying his wife, who was seven months pregnant, Old Chen gritted his teeth, bought a secondhand fishing rod, and reinvented himself as an outdoor fishing streamer.
He didn't catch a single fish. Instead, using the marinated beef his wife had made, he hooked an utterly ridiculous thing from the bottom of the water:
A young dragon from the Dragon Palace's civil service, happily calculating three hundred years' worth of social insurance, housing fund, and retirement benefits underwater!
A middle-aged unemployed man who'd lost his iron rice bowl, and a mythical young dragon with nothing on its mind but slacking off until retirement.
Little Golden Dragon: "Uncle, your beef... slurp... give me another box!"
Old Chen: "I don't care what kind of divine beast you are from the Dragon Palace. You ate my wife's beef, so tomorrow you're going to work as my electric scooter's engine, no arguments!"
Other people's games arrive: global catastrophe, wars between worlds, and the descent of gods.
Old Chen's game arrives: marital bliss, a dragon cadging food, electric scooter joyrides, and the everyday business of raising a kid.
