Lin Zhixia is a pet photographer with an odd rule: she only photographs animals, never people posing with them.
As a child, she once lost a puppy. As an adult, she was exploited over a series of charity photos and branded as someone who used stray animals for clout. After that, she stopped believing in companionship, and stopped believing photographs could preserve anything.
Then she arrives in a small town at the "Never Get Lost" Rescue Center, where she meets Zhou Lichuan, a cold-faced man with a sharp tongue.
He is a former search-and-rescue dog handler. His arm is scarred and his temper is fierce, but he'll brave the rain in the middle of the night to rescue an injured puppy. He remembers every stray animal's name, and when she's afraid, he murmurs, "Don't be afraid. I won't abandon you."
Lin Zhixia plans to leave as soon as she finishes her final photo shoot, but a little black dog named Wuyun catches her scarf in its teeth, and the man asks her with tear-filled eyes:
"Who says nobody wants you?"
"I do."
Later, the rescue center faces eviction, and the online harassment from her past returns. At last, she picks up her camera again and photographs those abandoned lives who have found love.
She also captures the spring that has finally come to her.
