A Substitute Bride in a Remote Mountain Village

On the night of her wedding, Shen Zhiyin is tricked by her stepmother into taking another woman's place and marrying into a poor mountain village. Her husband, Zhao Qiang, is violent and cruel. Her childhood sweetheart, Lu Yanzhou, catches them in the middle of the farce of consummating the marriage and leaves in bitter anguish. Her in-laws demand that she prove her virginity every day, only to discover that Zhao Qiang is impotent. They drop their pretense of kindness and subject her to every humiliation. With nowhere left to turn, Shen Zhiyin grips the silver needles her mother left behind and uses her remarkable acupuncture skills to carve out a path to survival: treating illnesses, serving up face-slapping, getting divorced, and turning her life around. She'll make everyone who wronged her pay on their knees! In her old age, her medical writings are passed down through the generations, and she spends her final years with Lu Yanzhou. A phoenix reborn from the ashes, she lives a legendary life.
