Dayan was founded for more than a hundred years, and the world was respected by the "Nine Sects and Thirteen Wus". Warriors draw breath into their veins and refine each family's true energy; but in the dark places of mountains and rivers, strange things called "odd omens" still wander around - shadows flowing backward, rain that can talk, and doors that refuse to close after death.
In order to save enough ransom, Shen Yan, the corpse-picker of Yanhui City, brought back his sister who was sold into a medicine shop from Yahang, and has been counting the unknown dead for the government all year round. One rainy night, he found a small bone lamp in the chest of a corpse that should not have existed. The lights were lit, reflecting what the deceased saw before his death, and also revealed the secret that Shen Yan had hidden for ten years: he had no heartbeat, but was still alive.
When the famous family, the black market and the imperial secretariat all pursue the bone lantern, Shen Yan has to step into the world. He wants to save his sister and also find out who he really is. It's just that for every piece of truth in the lamp, there is less peace in the world; and the erased "dayless night" seems to have never really ended.
