In the third year after the strange phenomena arrived, human civilization teetered on the brink of collapse. The global population had plummeted from eight billion to fewer than five hundred million. Lin Ye, a former game designer who had transmigrated here, had barely opened his eyes when he witnessed his younger sister die in a strange attack. He was now trapped in a ruined camp where survival was uncertain from one day to the next.
At the height of his despair, he awakened the Fourth Calamity Summoning System, which could summon players from the real world and send them into the apocalypse under the guise of a "full-dive game." These players were immortal, treating horrors as thrills, strange entities as bosses, and the apocalypse as a theme park.
The apocalyptic wasteland that others saw as hopeless was, to them, a grand opening celebration. The rule-bound horrors that everyone else avoided were dungeon targets for which they could look up guides. The psychics everyone revered were advanced classes they could unlock by spending money. Lin Ye's job was to be a good "official game designer," using quests to guide this lawless horde of "Fourth Calamities" as they built an impregnable city called "New Era" amid humanity's final ruins.
While the whole world waited to die in despair, a group of visitors from another world shouted, "For the loot!" and charged into the tide of horrors. Perhaps the apocalypse wasn't quite so unsolvable after all.
