Aya Kuze, a charcoal merchant in Kyoto, left her family business to a veteran to take care of it and lived a life of extreme dissoluteness. At this time, she suddenly received news of the death of her brother Shiratou Sozaemon.
Aya hurried back to her family of origin, Shirofujiya, the royal merchant of Kyoto Tantan and Temple, and began to arrange her brother's funeral. However, Shirotoya's boss Jinbei and his nephew Shiomi Seinosuke asked her not to interfere anymore, and the matter gradually developed into a battle over the inheritance of Shirotoya.
This inheritance dispute, which originally occurred among upper merchants, eventually spread all the way to Edo, even alarming the general Tokugawa Yoshimune and the Okudera Shrine chief Washio Shizu, and turned into one of the largest suspicions of the Edo period.
What started out as a dispute within a merchant ended up involving the general. Where will the ending go?
