Fang Jibai, a restorer at the municipal archives, takes on an old file that was damaged in a fire.
After he fills in the missing pages, a history that never happened begins to be written into reality.
And on the final page of the file, he finds his own name.
Twelve years ago, his father vanished in the archives fire. The official record declared him dead, yet no body was ever found. Now Fang Jibai can only search for the truth among records that are being erased page by page.
But every time he completes a genuine restoration, he loses a memory connected to the archive.
As more and more people with no records begin appearing in the city, he must choose between uncovering the truth and preserving reality.
