What's it like when your blind date looks like a wanted criminal?
Su Wan: Thanks for asking. I'm at a cafe, and I was just about to run.
Auntie Zhang said she'd introduce her to a nice, honest man. Instead, the burly guy sitting across from her had a scar on his brow and eyes that looked like he was interrogating a suspect.
Su Wan was too afraid to look up the whole time, then fled as soon as the date was over.
But two hours later, the burly guy was crouched outside her bakery with two bags of flour in his hands. "You said this afternoon you were running low on flour."
Only later did she find out that this man, who looked like he could take on ten people at once, could fix an oven with his bare hands, always carried cat food to feed strays, and remembered every casual thing she said.
When he got nervous, the tips of his ears turned red. When they held hands, his palms were sweaty. And when he looked at her, his eyes softened completely.
Su Wan: So... what was I even afraid of back then?
Lu Chen (trying to smile): Do I... look scary?
Su Wan: ...Don't smile. You look even scarier.
