After Her Divorce, She Entered the Chief Minister's Household

Shen Qingwan spent ten years married to Jiang Jun, managing the household in Wuxing and caring for her mother-in-law as she waited for him to pass the highest imperial examination and make something of himself. After waiting three months, what came back was a divorce letter, each accusation cutting to the bone.

The next day, she was driven out of the house. Rain fell thick as ox hairs, and her paper umbrella turned inside out. Xiao Xing, eyes red, carried out her dowry. Seven or eight of the ten trunks were empty. Her valuable jewelry and silver notes had all been stolen by her mother-in-law. At the bottom of the trunks were only a few old clothes and a peachwood comb with broken teeth.

Shen Qingwan carried a trunk toward the carriage, slipped, and fell backward. A hand caught her firmly around the waist. Through her wet clothes, she felt a scorching warmth. She looked up to see Xiao Que, the Grand Secretary. He kept away from women and took no concubines. When he found her, she was kneeling in the rain with an empty trunk in her arms. So he reached out to take her in, and while he was at it, turned the Jiang family upside down.
